What are the most important things to remember before a job interview?
If you have a job interview approaching there are a number of important things to remember for the day. These include:
- Practice common interview questions– Some common questions that you may be asked in an interview can be practiced, and your answers prepared before hand. These questions may include “Tell me about yourself,” “Why do you want to work for this company?” and “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”. You should also take some time to reread the job profile and the company website to get a feel for the skills and qualifications you may be expected to discuss. By doing all of this, you can feel more prepared and confident during the actual interview.
- Prepare your CV and cover letter- While the interviewer may have looked at this during the application process, they may want to refer to them or ask follow up questions. As a result, you should make sure your CV is up-to-date and highlights your relevant experience and skills. You should also consider bringing copies of your CV and cover letter to the interview in case the interviewer wants to refer to them.
- Prepare questions to ask the interviewer- It’s important to show the interviewer that you’re interested in the company and the role. Prepare a few questions to ask the interviewer, such as “What do you enjoy most about working for this company?” or “What are the biggest challenges facing the team right now?”
- Plan your transportation and arrival time- Punctuality is important in any business, across all sectors. Make sure you know how you’re going to get to the interview and allow plenty of time for any potential delays. It’s better to arrive early than to be rushed and stressed out when you arrive.
